Why Men Love Golf

Posted on October 4, 2021 By Arewa Lanre

What does golf have to offer that other sports don’t? What is it about golf that makes men love it? Why do men obsess over golf? These are probably questions a lot of people are asking about the sport, and why companies pay gazillions of dollars to people like Tiger Woods just to play in an event.

If you think about it, golf may seem to be slow tedious game. Unlike basketball, baseball, or football, golf doesn’t have the wow factor because of the lack of thousands of screaming fans at the sides of the field, but there are very good reasons why men love golf.

First and foremost, the reason why men love golf is that it is more than a sport. It is a social event. There is no other sport in the world that gets players to mingle with other players actively while playing, or with the spectators, the press, the fans, and a host of other people on the course. It does not hurt either that there is wine, champagne, or the always popular beer being served after every round (and sometimes during it). That is why men love it.

Another reason why men love golf is that it is a gentleman’s sport. Golf features no body contact or violent crashes, which are the stereotypical sport favorites of men. Golf is a game of honesty and integrity and is completely different than other sports in that respect. That is why it is considered to be a gentleman’s game.

It could also be linked to men’s instinctive desire to hit objects with sticks. You may think I am kidding, but this is actually one of the defense mechanisms of men, which could also explain why men love baseball, softball, hockey, and in a more petite sense, billiards. For whatever reason, men are obsessed with projectiles in motion, and hitting objects with a stick seem to be the most efficient primeval way of launching a projectile.

It is important to realize that there are a ton of reasons why men love golf. But Ladies, next time your husband wants to play on your anniversary, keep in mind that he loves you too.
